Yesterday vs. Today

31 Oct

When did we start using words like fiscal and strategy and stop yelling words like “you’re it” or marco, polo? What ever happened to racing out the door to catch the ice cream truck? The only race I’m in starts with a rat. Remember when you couldn’t wait for the bell to ring for recess, lunch or early dismissal? If something rings in the middle of my day now, I’m afraid its more work or bad news. I miss the anticipation of duck, duck, goose. The anticipation of getting through a crowd or past a slow page refresh, hurts. Remember when using a “bad word” got you a spanking and then a warning? Now, I have a cuss jar and CPS gives out warnings for spanking a child. There was a time when taking a trip meant packing into the back of the suburban and letting the folks take care of the rest. Now, lets just say, the only thing I don’t take care of when I travel, is a small person in the back of a suburban. Change is good and inevitable but sometimes things from the past are worth remembering as special, charming and are sometimes worth revisiting.
